KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Heath Department inspectors closed a Mexican restaurant after finding 42 violations, 14 of them classified as critical.

“During a routine inspection today, the Health Department temporarily suspended the permit at Patrikio's, 9849 Holmes,” said health department spokesman Jeff Hershberger.

Several of the food safety offenses were classified as “repeat violations.”

“Of course she’s going to find violations” said Patrikio’s manager, who identified himself as Aburas. “She walked right in at 11:00.”

The manager said the restaurant wasn’t ready for customers and certainly not an inspection.

“She just walked in we’re not even open yet,” the man acknowledged the store general opens at 11:00 am. “We were behind. We were trying to rush things.”

He said the restaurants drains were not backing up as stated in the inspection report, but were simply blocked and have since been repaired.

Inspectors also cited the restaurant for roach violations, “dirty” bathrooms, food debris, dust build-up, and food at potentially unsafe temperatures.

“Most of it is already fixed,” Aburas said. “Nothing at risk for the public in my opinion. The health department nowadays is very strict.”

Aburus hopes to apply for a re-inspection to re-open Friday.
