LEAWOOD, Kan. – A metro doctor is introducing concierge medicine to patients in Kansas. Dr. Mike Catausan believes it’s an option, which is in demand.
Five weeks ago, Catausan opened Exclusive MD near 105
th and Mission Road. It’s the first of its kind in Kansas. Patients recline on leather beds in front of flat screens. Their doctor is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He even delivers prescriptions. However, he does not accept insurance.
“Now, we’ve changed the game completely,” Catausan said.
For $125 a month, patients get in office treatment at no additional cost. Since there are only 600 patients, everyone gets a minimum of 30 minutes of face time with Dr. Mike.
“There’s a lot of new excitement about this practice because we’re able to offer health care to people that maybe didn’t have access to a doctor,” Catausan said.
Dr. John Sayegh runs a non-traditional clinic in Olathe. He refuses to accept insurance.
“I just feel I can do better care for my patients that way charging them much less than if I have to hire two more girls to do my insurance billing,” Sayegh said.
It’s not just cost that’s important to Sayegh and Catausan. Both believe choice creates competition and better care, which they said is critical to wellness.
“What we know is when we focus on wellness and prevention we can keep you out of the hospital,” Catausan said.
For Medicare patients, concierge doctors can decrease hospitalizations rates 90% to 95%, Catausan said.
