Religious Leaders March For Health Care Reform

Last Update: 11/24/2009 9:06 pm
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Cincinnati religious leaders gathered downtown Tuesday to deliver an open letter to Senator George Voinovich.

In the letter the group also asks “all elected officials to move from partisan debate toward dialogue.”

Members of the group consisted of Rabbi Sigma Faye Coran, Reverend Paula Jackson, Reverend Damon Lynch Jr. and several others.

"Now is the time that all Americans wake up and realize that health care is important for all," said the Reverend Elmer Martin, pastor of the Brown Chapel AME Church.

The group wants health care to be inclusive, accessible, affordable – and suggests that it is a moral imperative to bring health care reform to the nation.

"Now is the time that we all get up in the morning not worried about what would happen to me at the end of the day if I do not have insurance," continued Martin.

In the meantime, Senator Voinovich's office says they meet often with constituents to discuss health care reform.

A copy of the 2,000 page Senate bill sits in the office for anyone who wants to review it, a bill that Voinovich believes is fundamentally flawed.

In a statement from the Senator's office, it says Voinovich will continue to work on health care reform alternatives.
