Kan. Offers $230M Package for Soccer Complex

Last Update: 10/15 9:40 pm

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas officials are offering state and local incentives worth nearly $230 million in hopes of luring a corporate office complex and major league soccer stadium to Kansas City.

Kansas Commerce Secretary Dave Kerr disclosed the proposal Thursday. He said it had been forwarded to Wyandotte County officials as the state negotiates with medical software maker Cerner Corp. and the owners of the Kansas City Wizards.

A Cerner spokeswoman declined comment, and a Wizards official did not return a telephone message.

Cerner and the Wizards' owners are proposing a $414 million development near NASCAR's Kansas Speedway. The project includes an office complex for 4,500 Cerner employees, an 18,500-seat stadium for the Wizards and two dozen soccer fields for amateur teams.

Response from OnGoal CEO to the State of Kansas STAR Bond Application

“We appreciate the generous offer forwarded to the UG today from the State of Kansas. The State’s offer includes stipulations related to financing not found in previous STAR Bond approvals. We need to take time to put all of these requirements into a greater context and allow for review by our team, legal and bond counsel.”
