DALLAS -- If you plan to travel this holiday season, plan on paying more to fly the friendly skies.

The surcharges apply to a large number of flights on peak days around holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

Those boosting their surcharges include Delta, American, United, U.S. Airways and Northwest.

Tim Smith, spokesman for Fort Worth-based American Airlines said the increases started late last week with US Airways, and "most other airlines, including American, have matched."

The airlines' busiest days tend to fall right before or after a major holidays, but Thanksgiving and Christmas themselves are often slow travel days.
