KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City wine expert and author lists an $11 Riesling as the best choice of 10 bargain wines he found at metro stores.
Master wine sommelier Doug Frost’s favorite of the 10 bargain wines is the Rudi Wiest Riesling from Germany.
“With the temperatures already in the summer digits, red wine just doesn't thrill me as much as it does when I need it to warm up,” Frost says. “On the other hand, crisp, tangy Riesling is just the ticket. Sure, it's a tiny bit sweet, but it's also refreshingly tart in the finish, more like green apple and lemon lime.”
He put together this list of the 10 best wine bargains in Kansas City for NBC Action News.
Rudi Wiest Riesling (Germany) - about $11
Felino Malbec (Argentina) - about $11
Protocolo Tinto (Spain - from the Tempranillo grape) - about $9
Dry Creek Vineyards Chenin Blanc (California) - about $12
Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot (Washington) - about $13
Hill of Content Grenache Shiraz (Australia) - about $13
Straccali Chianti (Italy) - about $12
Santa Rita 120 Cabernet Sauvignon (Chile) - about $9
Perrin Cotes du Rhone Reserve (France) - about $9
Montelle Chambourcin (Missouri) - about $14
Frost is the host of “Check Please,” a KCPT restaurant review show, and the wine consultant for United Airlines.
