KANSAS CITY, MO. - A key part of the city's musical heritage will get nearly $150,000 in government funding.
Congressman Emanuel Cleaver announced a $143,000 earmark for the Mutual Musicians Foundation.
The foundation has served Kansas City jazz musicians for nearly 100 years.
It's been at its current location at 18th and Vine since the 1930's.
"if we can somehow create a great deal of local then national attention to the mutual musicians foundation, maybe we can reignite jazz to the level it was in the 30's, 40's, and 50's," says, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II.
The foundation has helped nurture the careers of such famous musicians as Count Basie, Charlie Parker and Lester Young.
