Hundreds of Refund Checks Unclaimed

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Internal Revenue Service is looking for more than 100,000 U.S. taxpayers who didn’t receive their refund checks.

In Missouri, 1,357 regular refund checks were returned to the IRS by the U.S. Postal Service due to mailing address errors.

The Missouri checks are worth a total of more than $952,000.

More than 300 of the Missouri checks are owed to people in our area. Cass County has 20 undelivered checks, Platte County has 35 undelivered checks, Clay County has 58 undelivered checks and Jackson County has 213 undelivered checks.

In Kansas, 708 regular refund checks were returned to the IRS by the postal service.

The Kansas checks are worth a total of more than $592,000.

More than 200 of the Kansas checks are owed to people in our area. Eleven are owed in Leavenworth County, Wyandotte County has 48 undelivered checks and Johnson County has 176 undelivered refund checks.

To find out if you have a check waiting for you at the IRS, you can go to their Web site.

Taxpayers without access to the Internet who think they may be missing a refund check can call the IRS Refund Hotline at (800) 829–1954, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Taxpayers who have moved since filing their last tax return can ensure the IRS has their correct address by filing Form 8822, Change of Address, with the IRS. Download the form from the IRS.gov Web site or request it by calling 1-800-829-3676.
