KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Thousands of children are getting an education in the impact the economy is having on them.
Various day care facilities said they've noticed people suffering financial difficulties are pulling their children out of programs to cut costs in their own personal budgets.
Operators say enrollment has dropped in some cases by double digits.
"They've cut down on the number of teachers they have in there this year compared to last year," said Matthew Hone, a parent.
For many small day care owners, the lack of enrollment is costing them thousands of dollars, often times ending in bankruptcy, forcing them to close their doors.
Parents say because of the high price of day care, they are asking friends and family to watch their kids for free or for a minimum amount.
