LENEXA, Kan. – Spring cleaning may have you wishing to unload that old carpet or appliance and now you can. The city of Lenexa is offering two Saturdays for its annual curbside collection of large, unwanted items. Residents east of Lackman Road should set their items out for collection Saturday, June 13. Residents west of Lackman are scheduled for pickup the following Saturday on June 20.

Any items you want picked up must be curbside by 7 a.m. Acceptable items include furniture, appliances, swing sets, carpet and the like. Loose items such as brush, lumber, fencing, metal posts, swing sets must be cut to four feet and bundled no heavier than 65 pounds per bundle. The goal is to make it easy enough for one person to handle.

Unaccepted items include tires, concrete, rocks, dirt, shingles, batteries, waste oil, paint or other hazardous materials. Electronics, including TV’s, are also not allowed and will not be picked up.

The curbside pickup of large items is free except for any white goods with Freon. The Clean Air Act requires special handling of Freon. Lenexa will accept such items, but you must make an appointment and the charge is $35 paid in advance. To make an appointment, call (913) 477-7880 by Noon on the Friday before your designated pickup date.
