KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A rebate can save you money on big-ticket items, but only if you cash it in.
Consumer Reports found about 25 percent of rebates never get filed.
That means people who bought items to get a deal are missing out on cash, that’s instead staying in the hands of the retailer.
Consumer Reports found the main reason people don’t turn in rebates is because they feel they are too complicated or technical to bother completing.
The magazine says for that reason, you should be prepared to fill out all the necessary paperwork if you’re going to accept a rebate.
Otherwise you’re better off trying to negotiate the best possible deal using other factors.
