RAYTOWN, Mo. – The news that Raytown’s three Chrysler dealerships are on the chopping block has residents and business owners in shock.

The dealerships have been part of the community for more than 30 years.

"It's going to be a tremendous blow to the City of Raytown to lose these dealerships," said Gary Graham, owner of Funhouse Pizza and Pub.

Graham's family has owned the business since 1964.

The restaurant is located just across the highway from Mitch Crawford Raytown Holiday Motors and Crawford's Raytown Jeep.

Graham is familiar with the Crawford name and the contributions owner Mike Crawford has made to the community.

"He has been helping the Chamber of Commerce and they've been involved in the city. They've helped sports teams and bowling teams. They're very involved in the community," said Graham.

Paul Buroff has lived in Raytown all his life.

He says his family members have been faithful customers of the local dealerships.
"My two uncles have drove nothing but Chrysler all their lives. They bought 20 or 30 cars from them and Mitch Crawford was a true Raytown man," says Buroff.

Raytown Chamber of Commerce President Vicki Turnbow said the loss could have long-term effects on the Raytown economy.

She is hopeful that the Crawford family, which has been part of the Chamber since 1975, can overcome the loss.

The dealerships have until the end of the month to appeal the closings.

Chrysler plans to close 10 area dealerships as part of the company's plan to restructure in bankruptcy.

In all 789 dealerships will close across the country.

Among the dealerships set to stay open include

-Bob Hoss Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Gladstone, Mo.

- Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Landmark Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Lee's Summit, Mo.

- Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Olathe, Kan.

- Chrysler Dodge Jeep, and Overland Park Dodge Jeep, Overland Park, Kan.
