With money tight for many families this year, if a company sends you a check in the mail, many people would take it to the bank right away.
Unfortunately unexpected checks often come with strings attached, as one man learned.
Gary Holloway wanted an easy way to trim the paws on his beloved terrier.
So when he saw an ad for the "Pedi Paws," he ordered it, and was thrilled to receive it in a couple of weeks.
He was even more thrilled when Pedi Paws sent him what looked like a rebate check a few weeks later.
Gary says he was about to take it to the bank when his wife suggested he double check the check from Pedi Paws.
That's when he realized that had he cashed it, he would have ended up paying for it many times over.
That's right, in the fine print it tells you that by cashing it you've agreed to a recurring annual charge of $139 dollars.
Gary's glad he read it, or that nail trimmer for his dog could have cost him hundreds!
Remember, any time you receive a check you didn't expect, ask questions.
Look it over carefully, and make sure you're not agreeing to anything by cashing it.
