KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It’s the day after the Chiefs released Larry Johnson and word is that he’s still out of a job. No team claimed the running back off waivers, according to ESPN.
Johnson is now free to sign with any team. The Chiefs have to pay him the balance of the $2.1 million remaining on his contract this season.
For the first time since his release, Johnson spoke out. He appeared on radio during “The Dan Patrick Show” on Tuesday. A transcript of the interview appeared on profootballtalk.com.
Patrick asked Johnson about his feelings toward Chiefs head coach Todd Haley and Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli.
“I was and still am the biggest Todd Haley fan,” Johnson told Patrick. “I am a big Todd Haley fan and I’m a Scott Pioli fan.”
Teams have yet to announce publicly if they have any interest in Johnson. ESPN reportedly says that Johnson wants to play for the Steelers. There’s also speculation that the Patriots and the Redskins might sign Johnson.
