GAME UPDATES

4th Quarter

Cassel threw his third interception of the game in the first minute of the fourth quarter, leading to a San Diego field goal to extend the lead to 30-7.

It would get worse for the Chiefs when the Chargers blocked a punt and recovered the football in the end zone for a touchdown, stretching the lead to 37-7.

Neither team would add to the scoreboard after that, as the Chargers closed out the victory, 37-7.

3rd Quarter

The Chiefs were bailed out with a pass interference call as they attempted to convert a fourth-down play early in the third quarter, and they would capitalize a few plays later when Matt Cassel hit Dwayne Bowe for a touchdown to bring the Chiefs within 13 points.

The Chargers answered the score as Rivers connected with Olathe North graduate Darren Sproles for a touchdown pass to push San Diego’s lead back to 20 late in the third quarter.

Two San Diego interceptions stifled any Chiefs momentum, with the second returned deep into Chiefs territory, but the Chargers were unable to convert.

SCORE: San Diego 27, Chiefs 7

2nd Quarter

The Chargers connected on their second big play of the game when wide receiver Vincent Jackson caught a 51-yard pass from Rivers to get San Diego into scoring position. The play led to a short field goal to put the Chargers up 17-0.

Despite getting their first, first-down of the game on the next drive, the Chiefs quickly punted the ball back to the Chargers and once again, Jackson and Rivers connected on another 51-yard pass play, but a missed field goal gave the ball back to Kansas City.

The Chiefs marched down into San Diego territory, but matched missed field goals when Ryan Succop misfired on a 43-yard attempt near the end of the half.

San Diego was able to add a field goal at the end of the half to go up 20-0.

SCORE: San Diego 20, Chiefs 0

1st Quarter

After trading punts, Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson completed his longest run of the season for a 36-yard gain, leading to a Chargers touchdown pass by Philip Rivers to take the early lead, 7-0.

The Chiefs turned the ball over on downs after failing to convert a fourth-and-one play in their own territory, leading to a second Rivers touchdown pass to put San Diego up 14-0.

SCORE: San Diego 14, Chiefs 0
