KANSAS CITY, Mo.- For a second straight week, Matt Cassel is on standby. The Chiefs quarterback has practiced all week and says his injured knee is feeling better.

"I feel like I'm leaps and bounds ahead of where I was last week at this time."

Cassel practiced last week. He thought he might get a chance to start the opener in Baltimore. In fact, Cassel went to the field early on Sunday for a workout. The trainers and head coach Todd Haley were not satisfied with the results.

"They took the decision out of my hands which was probably the right decision. I'm further along because of it."

Cassel spent the game on the sidelines in street clothes. He watched Brodie Croyle complete 16 of 24 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns. The former backup says it was hard to watch his backup at the controls.

"(Tom) Brady once told me, 'You never want to see somebody else doing your job.' That's part of this position. You never want to see somebody else doing your job. You always want to be out there on the field."
