KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The
Kansas City Chiefs are trying to stay focused as the team, and running back Larry Johnson, remain at the center of some negative attention.
Johnson’s recent remarks, online and to reporters, have resulted in the team suspending the former Pro-Bowler until Nov. 9.
On Wednesday, the
Kansas City Star released audio, recorded by their reporter, during a Monday press availability. That’s when Johnson uttered a homophobic slur toward reporters.
In its story,
The Star says, “Readers should listen carefully and turn up the volume since the comment is whispered quickly under Johnson’s breath in a busy locker room.”
The latest installment of
Chiefs Insider Blog, published on Wednesday, makes little mention of Johnson or his absence.
Earlier entries discuss the controversy surrounding Johnson, adding, “RB Larry Johnson was not in the building for the second consecutive day. RB Jamaal Charles took reps in Johnson’s place with the first team once again today.”
Head coach Todd Haley has also had little to say specifically about Johnson. Instead, he focused on the
team’s goals for the bye week.
“This is an opportunity for us to do a little catch up offensively so to speak and to clean up some of the issues that have consistently been giving us problems,” said Haley.
The Chiefs face the Jaguars in Jacksonville at noon on Nov. 8.
