In this economy, more and more people are using debt counselors to get their finances in order. Consumers should always be careful when choosing a debt counselor. Experts typically recommend you choose a non-profit group, and don't pay before you receive any service. You should also check out the company with the Better Business Bureau.
The well-known non-profit group,
Consumer Credit Counseling Service, is changing its name so don't be surprised if you can't find it.
Consumer Credit Counseling Service will know become known as Apprisen Financial Advocates. "We feel that our current name doesn't really represent all that we do or the larger geographic area we now cover. We wanted a name that truly represented who we are, linking our growing family of services under a single national identity," President & CEO Michael Kappas said.
The company feels the name "Apprisen" represents what they do better. Apprise means to counsel and advise.
The company says its policies will remain the same, and if you use the company you will continue to follow the same program guidelines.
