KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A shopkeeper at Abarotte's Grocery store was shot and killed Saturday morning during a hold-up.
Police initiated an Operation 100 after the suspects presumed involved in the shooting fled to a nearby apartment complex. After a nearly four-hour standoff, two suspects were arrested and in custody shortly after 3 p.m.
Police were initially called to the 3400 block of E. 12th Street shortly before 11 a.m. on reports of a shooting either inside or just outside of a Mexican grocery store.
According to reports, the store clerk was robbed at gun point by two men. Two employees from the shop then chased the two suspects, during which the suspects shot and killed one of the employees.
The other employee then chased the suspects into an apartment building. Around 11:30 a.m., police initiated an operation 100 about a block away from the shooting to surround the suspects presumed involved.
According to authorities, charges against the suspects could be announced as soon as Sunday.
