KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For Sherri Mesh, working out at a gym wasn’t getting the results she desired.
“I’ve belonged to a couple of fitness clubs. There’s just no motivation when you’re in the gym,” she says.
So Mesh joined the “
Sexy Back Boot Camp” in Blue Springs.
“He doesn’t give you a break. He pushes you to your limit,” says Mesh.
He – is Kri Chay the instructor for the boot camp.
“The energy (of boot camp) is awesome,” says Chay.
Motivation Found at Boot Camp
Three times a week Chay leads a group of women in a high intensity workout. The women come in all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. The cost is about $20 a class.
They say finding motivation at a gym is difficult. But here they have each other. The women are a team offering much needed encouragement.
Sherri Mesh hopes to lose 25 pounds.
“I have my 25 year high school reunion coming up in the spring,” she says.
Chay includes nutritional guidance. And class doesn't end when you walk out the door.
“He'll text you to see how you are doing, give you good ideas to keep you motivated throughout the week,” says Traci Fadler.
Non-Conventional Means
On the other side of the state line in Overland Park Spencer Shaver offers a similar class called "
Boot Camp Challenge".
“We use non-conventional means to help get people in shape in a very short amount of time,” says Shaver.
The camp cost $149 to $169. Shaver says they use all sorts of “equipment” for their exercises.
“We bring in things that are non-conventional like we’ll lift sandbags,” he says.
People take his Boot Camp Challenge for a variety of reasons.
Advice from Trainers
“My goals are to bend over and be able to tie my shoes the right way instead of sideways,” says Lyn Jandt.
“Live long enough to play with my teenage kids,” says Mark Blackton.
We're going to keep up with all our boot camp participants and let you know how they're doing in a few weeks.
