LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. - Yoga can provide a great balance for your mind, body and soul. For busy families, it can also be a healthy alternative for kids.

A one of a kind studio in Lee's Summit is making big strides. It is called The Zen Zone. Co-owner Leah Morgan said yoga is great for all ages.

“Yoga is a journey, not a destination, so we welcome everyone to begin their journey at The Zen Zone,” Morgan said.

The Zen Zone is a yoga studio designed for kids and families. Ruthann Zentner is the other co-owner. In a recent class, she stirred the kids’ imaginations with a fun beach scenario.

“Can we open our fingertips really wide in the sand? And now everybody be a really great crocodile and sink to the floor,” Morgan said.

Zentner and Morgan said they wanted to create a great environment for keeping kids active.

“Because whether a child is very fit, or completely sedentary, yoga is something everyone can do,” Morgan said. “So we put a fun spin on it for kids using songs, games, different activities to keep them engaged.”

There are classes for all ages and all levels. Instead of just driving your kids to an activity and waiting to pick them up, Morgan encourages parents to get involved.

“We have mommy/baby classes. We have toddler story time classes that the parents can come in and do together,” Morgan said. “We have classes just for kids; they can do it without their parents. We have family classes.”

During the summer months, there are daily summer camps too, where kids can sign up for one day, one week or one month.

It is a great way to have fun while enjoying an age old routine for great fitness.
“You use your own body weight as resistance,” Morgan said. “So it's good for core strengthening, real over all body strengthening, but also giving you flexibility as well because we do a lot of stretching.”

If you cannot make it to them, consider having them come to you. The Zen Zone offers custom programs, to take their show on the road, for your school, church or business.
