PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. - UPS is known for getting its packages delivered on time, but one package in Florida never reached its final destination.
That is because the box contained a poisonous snake, whose bite could possibly kill a person.
An exotic animal dealer in Virginian sent a snake called a false water cobra to a customer in Florida who wanted it delivered to a school.
The snake was sent in a plain brown box, unmarked, with no air holes. The buyer called UPS when it didn’t arrive on time. That is how the snake was discovered.
Vernon Yates with a group called Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation is appalled.
“For the shipper to ship it like this and break so many laws, regulations and so forth, I have a real problem with that,” Yates said. “And a real problem with it going to a school.”
It is legal to own an exotic snake. But none of the major shipping companies will send it. The snake never made it to the school. It now lives at the wildlife rescue facility.
