PINEVILLE, Mo. –  A former McDonald County Prosecutor’s office clerk accused of faking cancer to collect donations will stand trial on felony stealing charges.

Tammy R. Young, 42, was bound over Wednesday.

Young worked as a clerk in the prosecutor’s office from June 2008 until she was dismissed this July.

McDonald County Sheriff Robert Evenson said he initiated an investigation into Young earlier this year after receiving reports that the woman's cancer claims were a fraud.

She is accused of accepting donations for treatment she didn't need.

Defense attorney Ross Rhoades said Young never asked anyone to hold fundraisers.

He also said prosecutors don't have evidence showing either that Young did not contract cancer or that she did not believe she was stricken with cancer.
